Creative Writing Instructors

The Parlor is committed to hiring creative, inspiring, and dynamic instructors who want to share their craft and passion with aspiring writers. The positions provide excellent opportunities to join a growing nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the creative development of individual writers, cultivating a local writing community, and building an audience for literature on the North Shore of Massachusetts.

The Parlor is actively seeking two instructors to join us this summer as we pilot our programming. The application deadline is May 1, 2008.

Responsibilities

  • Attend The Parlor’s a pre-workshop seminar (time and date to be announced).
  • Develop and implement an original lesson plan
  • Attend a benchmark meeting scheduled at the midpoint of the workshop.
  • Select students to participate in the quarterly community reading.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must have experience in the creative writing classroom as a student. Formal creative writing instruction (BFA, MFA, or other) is required.
  • Prior teaching and workshop facilitation experience is strongly preferred.
  • Publication of your writing is a plus.

Compensation

Compensation is competitive with similar organizations and based on the hours committed to instruction and the term of service with The Parlor. The Parlor values high-quality instruction and will offer merit increases.

How to Apply

Develop a course description. This brief outline will include duration of courses, describe course content, and include 3-4 measurable outcomes for prospective students (e.g. write 15 poems, revise two stories, submit one piece to a literary journal, etc.) The outline should also include titles of books, literary journals, or other special supplies students would need to purchase for your course.

To email a copy of your course description, a resume, and cover letter, use our contact page. All application materials will be reviewed and applicants will be notified as soon as decisions are made.
